Library Cards

Le Mars Public Library is funded through city of Le Mars property tax dollars. Currently, other entities that support the library with property tax dollars are the cities of Craig, Hinton and Struble. Residents of these cities and Le Mars can receive a free Full Access library card.

Application
The Library Card Application (PDF) may be printed, completed, and brought to the library with the correct identification.

Requirements for Obtaining a Card
If you are over the age of 18, identification (ID) is needed to apply for a library card. To obtain a library card, please bring a valid photo ID. If you do not have a photo ID or your photo ID does not include your current address, please bring a 2nd form of identification with your address. Examples of acceptable documents for address verification (other than a photo ID) are:
  • Apartment lease
  • Current utility or phone bills
  • Official government documents
  • Vehicle registration
  • Voter registration card
Children's Library Cards
Children under the age of 18 may get a library card with a parent’s permission. Parents must also hold a current library card in good standing with the library.

Iowa Residents Not in the Area
If you live in Iowa, but outside the city limits of Le Mars, Craig, Hinton or Struble, and if your home library participates in the Iowa Open Access Program, you are eligible to check out materials at the Le Mars Public Library. Please bring a valid ID with your name and current address and a current library card from a participating library.

Requirements for Open Access Eligibility
Counties and cities must provide funding to a public library in order for their residents to be eligible for an Open Access library card.

Limited Services
Access to some digital resources is limited, such as Le Mars Public Library’s enhanced WILBOR eBook collection.

Full Access-Paid Library Cards
Out-of-state residents, or Iowans not living in Le Mars, Craig, Hinton or Struble may purchase a Full Access-Paid library card for $40 per year. This rate is equivalent to the Le Mars per capita property tax support rate. Full Access-Paid library cards will have access to the print and digital collections, including the enhanced Wilbor eBook collection.

Property Owners
People who own property in Le Mars, or in cities that provide funding to the library, are entitled to a Full Access card even if they do not reside in the city. Please bring a current property tax receipt. Please read the complete Circulation Services Policy for more information.
