Mayor and City Council Members

City Council meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of each month, excluding holidays, at 12:00 Noon in the Le Mars City Council Chambers located in the back of City Hall. All meetings are open to the public and visitors are encouraged to attend. Agendas are available the Friday prior to regularly scheduled meetings and are posted.

I personally want to welcome everyone to Le Mars… “Where Life is Sweet” Dick Kirchoff

I have had the opportunity to be Mayor of Le Mars for four and one half years. Our population is 9,867 citizens. We have been blessed with quality, clean, industries and we continue to grow. We have excellent quality of life programs for families such as a superb YMCA, Indoor Aquatic Center & Outdoor Pool, Historical Museum, Arts Center, Twenty-seven hole golf course, a nine mile recreation trail and many more amenities. I am blessed with a special friend Paulette, one daughter named Pam and three grandchildren of which two are married.

	My wife Mary and I have 3 daughters, 1 son, and 1 grandchild. I have been in the insurance business here in LeMars since 1986. I have served on the city council since January of 2005. Prior to serving on the Council, I served on the Planning and Zoning Commission.

Delana Ihrke (Ward 2)	Appointed/Elected	Term Ends

	Delana Ihrke has served Ward 2 since 2008. She hails from South Dakota and attended Morningside College for two years before graduating from Drake University in Des Moines. After spending four years in Chicago, she and her husband, Scott, returned to his hometown of Le Mars in 1995 where he started his career as an optometrist. They have one daughter, Elizabeth, who attends Franklin Elementary. Between her duties as "Mom," council member, and bookkeeper for Drs. Schroeder and Ihrke, Delana volunteers for church, school and community activities. Any free time is usually spent with her family, in her kitchen, or curled up with a book.

	I am a native of Northwest Iowa, born in Cherokee. I moved to Le Mars in 1970 after purchasing The Le Mars Flower House, which I still operate. I was the former president of the Le Mars Area Chamber of Commerce, served on the Le Mars Park Board and Le Mars City Council for twelve (12) years serving ward 3. On City Council I serve on the Solid Waste Committee and Water/Wastewater Committee. I am an avid biker who is passionate about bike trails.

Rex E. Knapp (At Large)	Appointed/Elected	Term Ends

	Rex Knapp has served on the Le Mars City Council for 16 years. Rex is a native of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and a graduate of Iowa State University. Directly following graduation, Rex began his accounting career in Des Moines, Iowa, with Coopers and Lybrand. Following a ten-year career with Coopers and Lybrand, he and his family moved to Le Mars, Iowa, where he became a partner in a local CPA firm, Kroese & Kroese, CPA, PC. Rex is a member of the Convention and Visitor Advisory Board, the Finance Committee, and Mayor Pro Tem. He is also a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. Rex and his wife, Chris, have five children, Nicholas and his wife Justina, Amanda and her husband Brad, and Ashley.

	John and his wife Lorene have lived in Le Mars for nearly 40 years. They have three married children. John is a commercial/industrial account manager for MidAmerican Energy. He is serving his third term as a City Councilman. Lorene is a teacher in the Le Mars Community Middle School.
