Le Mars Community
The Le
Mars Community School system
is a fully accredited school district.
The district includes four K-5 elementary
buildings, one 6-8 middle school,
and one 9-12 high school. The 2002-03
student enrollment in grades K-12
is over 2,300 students. The certified
staff numbers at 160. The district
has implemented all day every day
kindergarten programming, and is
committed to lowering class size
at the elementary grades. The middle
schools mission statement of "meeting
the needs of young adolescents" is
being accomplished through the implementation
of the middle school concept. The
comprehensive high school offers
a full range of academic, co-curricular,
and extra-curricular activities in
which our students have experienced
a great deal of success over the
years. The district provides a hot
lunch program, transportation for
rural students and a low cost shuttle
system for in-town students, and
a support staff of counselors, nurses,
psychologists, social workers, speech
and hearing specialists.

Gehlen Catholic School
Gehlen
Catholic School is a K-12 fully accredited
system with a 2002-2003 enrollment
of 500 students and a certified teaching
staff of 41. Supported by investments
from six parishes, parents and development,
Gehlen Catholic strives to promote
openness to God, to provide a quality
education and to instill Catholic
values in a caring, challenging and
prayerful environment. The curriculum
offers daily instruction in religion,
reading, language arts, math, science
and social studies. Specialized instruction
in technology, physical education,
vocal and instrumental music, and
art are also offered for students.
Individual needs of students are
addressed through a resource room,
talented and gifted enrichment activities,
and a variety of clubs and organizations.
Services of a school nurse, hot lunch
program staff, and elementary and
high school counselors are also provided
to students. Additional specialized
services are offered through efforts
coordinated with the Western Hills
Area Education Association. Parent
involvement is encouraged through
T.E.A.M. (parent organization), the
Fine Arts Boosters, Jay Club (athletic
boosters), and Friends of Gehlen

Le Mars Beauty College
Le Mars is also home to the Le Mars Beauty College, which offers a full course
for those interested in the art of hairdressing and cosmetology.
Life Skills Training Center,
Inc.
LSTC is an agency offering training and education for people with disabilities.

BVU Le Mars Center is an upper division undergraduate program offering classes
at the Junior & Senior level, which leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree.
