The library has an extensive collection of genealogical materials, including local family histories, cemetery records and other items of interest.
Newspapers on Microfilm
The library's collection includes the following newspapers on microfilm, dating back to the late 1800s/early 1900s:
Akron Register Tribune
Le Mars Globe Post
Le Mars Weekly Sentinel
The collection also contains census records.
The Le Mars and Akron papers can all be accessed online. Use the following as log in information:
Log in: Plymouth County
In addition, if you are hunting for a specific family or portion of genealogy you can see if those records are available at our catalog as they are all archived there.
Family histories are housed in a filing cabinet, and many reference materials are located in the reference section. We can guide you to the genealogy section and answer simple questions, but if you should need assistance with family searches, you may wish to contact the Northwest Iowa Genealogical Society.
County History & Land Ownership
For county history collections or patrons interested in county land ownership atlases and other history, searchers now have integrated access to over 9,000 map items in the Iowa Digital Library.
