POTTERS FIELD
BLOCK 11 C
MEMORIAL CEMETERY
ACKNOWLEDGMENT
BLOCK 11C of the Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa is the final resting place of many unknown and forgotten souls that at one time lived or passed through the Plymouth County area.
Many of the stories here were compiled by hard work and research from a countless number of people reading over-archived newspaper articles, official federal, state and local government documents and other sources.
Sources such as the Plymouth County Museum, The Plymouth County Historical Society, The Sioux City Diocese Burial record. City of Le Mars Burial record. Ancestry Web Site. The Le Mars Daily Sentinel, and other newspaper archives too numerous to mention. This does not include the names of people from the community passing on their stories of souls buried in Memorial Cemetery and its workings and record keeping systems. All of which were a key part in putting this document together.
As you move through the stories of the souls laid to rest here, you need to understand that we have to the best of our ability listed the person in the rows we believe they are buried in. We also understand that there were many buried here with no record at all. Some because of poor record keeping at the time of death and others were buried at night by family or friends without notifying the proper authority at the time, because of lack of funds or unknown reasons.
For any additions or corrections that need to be made to this document, please contact THE LAST GIFT, in care of Lynn Steckelberg at P.O. Box 221 Le Mars, IA 51031.
